Atlanta Transitional Center
The Atlanta Transitional Center is a minimum-security facility for adult male felons who are in the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections. This facility is located in Atlanta, Georgia and can house 257 inmates who are nearing the end of their sentence. The Atlanta Transitional Center is the host facility for the Metro Complex.
This facility has two missions. The first is to prepare the inmates who are nearing the end of their incarceration to be responsible citizens. The second mission is to maintain a work force of felons who have a maximum of 42 months left on their sentence to work outside of the center for various state agencies.
The housing at Atlanta Transitional Center is on three floors of two, five-story buildings. Each floor consists of rooms that sleep between two and six inmates.

Visiting Hours and Rules
Visiting hours at the Atlanta Transitional Center are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Saturdays, Sundays, and State Holidays.
Who Can Visit?
Before you can visit an inmate at Atlanta Transitional Center, the inmate must put you on their visiting list, and you must be approved by the Georgia Department of Corrections. Visitor applications are available by clicking here.
Individuals who are not considered “immediate” family members may be allowed to visit by being considered as a significant relationship visitor. For individuals wanting to visit as a significant relationship visitor, the inmate must initiate the request.
General Visiting Rules
Visitors are required to present a photo ID prior to their admission for visiting. Your identification will be kept in a secure area outside the actual visitation area and will be returned to you at the conclusion of the visit.
Visitors can only bring the following items into the visiting room:
- An appropriate form of picture identification
- A maximum of $20.00 in coins to be used for the vending machines, and
- A set of car keys
No food or drink will be brought into the facility from the outside. Funds for inmates from visitors will be accepted only through the Consolidated Banking Unit, and may not be brought into a facility.
All visitors are subject to a search of their person by electronic surveillance instruments. All items brought into the facility by a visitor will be searched by officers assigned to the visitation area.
Personal contact such as hand shaking, embracing, or kissing is permitted only at the beginning and conclusion of the visit. Excessive, frequent or prolonged embracing, hand holding, kissing, or other inappropriate behavior is strictly prohibited.
Dress Code
Visitors are required to wear appropriate attire. Shoes are required of all visitors, including children, at all times. Male visitors are required to wear shirts and full-length trousers. Females are required to wear foundation type garments such as bras, panties, and a slip. Any type of clothing that is suggestive or revealing in any way is prohibited.
Inappropriate clothing includes, but is not limited to:
- Dresses with thin straps which expose shoulders or chest area in any manner
- Dresses, skirts, or other similar garments that are more than two (2) inches above the knees
- Tops, such as tank tops or any other top which exposes shoulders or chest area in any manner
- Tube tops or halter tops of any type
- Any type of clothing which reveals the stomach or midriff area
- Any type of clothing that is made of sheer, net, mesh or transparent material
- Shorts of any kind or any kind of slacks that are above the knee
- Leggings, jeggings, or any other skin tight pants, unless worn at least partially covered by another garment, such as a skirt or long top that is no more than two inches above the knee

The Atlanta Transitional Center provides nine OJT (on-the-job training) details which are located at various state agencies. Inmates are assigned to Custodial Maintenance, Food Service, Building Maintenance, Auto Repair/Maintenance, Landscaping, and Laundry Services.
