Programs For Inmates
Work Release
The Cullman County Detention Center has an active work-release program for both male and female inmates. Inmates who participate in work release have been vetted and classified as suitable candidates for the program.
Inmates who qualify for the work release programs are housed in dormitory-type facilities with bunk beds. The work-release program allows sentenced defendants to go into the community in the Cullman area and have gainful employment with various employers.
Work release allows inmates to earn an income, which pays for their housing, food, and clothing while incarcerated. Additionally, the money they earn is used to pay off court-ordered costs, fines, fees, etc...
Work release allows the inmate to develop skills and sometimes a trade. Often, inmates go on to obtain full-time employment with these participating businesses upon their release, which lowers the rate of recidivism.
Trash Detail
Inmates in the custody of the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office work year-round, weather permitting, to keep the highways of Cullman County clean of trash and litter. Four nonviolent inmates work under a Cullman County Sheriff’s Deputy to remove tons of trash and litter (paper, bottles, clothes, tires, tarps, etc.)
