The Mac Sim Butler Detention Facility was built in 2006 as part of a $50 million expansion of the existing county jail. The 169,768 square-foot addition can house a maximum of 1290 inmates. The facility consists of four floors, three of which houses inmates.

  • The first floor is where intake and release takes place. It also features central control, records, a staff gym, administrative offices, and a large conference room.
  • The second floor is where you'll find the state-of-the-art medical unit, a multi purpose room, and the female housing unit.
  • The third and fourth floors house minimum and medium-security male detainees.

The housing units at the Mac Sim Butler Detention Facility contain four-person cells, a recreation area, a visitation area and a multi-purpose room to provide for inmate programs and services.

Each unit features mezzanine housing levels that officers monitor via an enclosed control booth. Each control booth is staffed by a correctional officer who supervises three inmate housing areas that each have 12 four-person cells (48 beds to a block and 144 inmates to a unit).
