Tehama County Jail

The Tehama County Jail is located in Red Bluff, California and is operated by the Tehama County Sheriff's Department. The main jail houses a maximum of 227 adult men and women who have been arrested by county or municipal law enforcement, those committed to custody by the courts via sentencing, and inmates awaiting transfer to the California Department of Corrections.

VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday)

Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE) is a free and anonymous telephone service that provides victims of crime both information and notification. VINE monitors the custody status of offenders in the Tehama County Claybank and receives updated information every 15 minutes.

The Toll Free Number for California VINE is 1.877.411.5588. Anyone can call the California State VINE line to determine an inmate's custody status. To search for offender information, callers will need one of the following items:

  • Offender name or alias
  • Secondary search option (if there is more than one offender with the same name), such as:
    • Arrest date
    • Date of birth
    • Middle initial
    • Offender identification number

VINE will let callers know about the offender's current custody status, the location of the inmate, and his/her offender number.

Visiting Hours and Rules

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, ALL in-person inmate visitation at the Tehama County Jail has been canceled until further notice. Video visitation is available through www.icsolutions.com.

Visiting Rules

Inmates are allowed one 30-minute visit twice each week. They are allowed to have more than one visitor during those 30 minutes; however, the time must be split between visitors, one at a time.

All visitors must present a picture ID and by 18 years of age to visit.  ALL visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  

During in-person visiting, all visitors are subject to search. Only one visitor per inmate is allowed in the visitation room, unless they are accompanied by a minor.

The Tehama County Jail has strict mail procedures that must be followed for the safety and security of the facility, staff, and inmates. ALL unacceptable or improperly addressed inmate mail will be “Returned to Sender.” Do not draw on the envelope, neatly print all information.

The following list of items are NOT ALLOWED in inmate mail. If any of these items are found, the mail will be returned to the sender or confiscated:

  • Contraband, including drugs, weapons, hazardous materials, spills/unknown substances (Lipstick/Perfume)
  • Stationery, stamps, envelopes, post-its, paper – such as construction, drawing, cardstock, tracing, hobby, craft, or felt etc,
  • Paperclips, metal, plastic, laminations, balloons, jewelry, string, feather, CD/DVD/TAPES, food clothing, etc.
  • Stickers, tape, glue, or any adhesives on the inside or outside of the envelope/letter.
  • No cards of any kind – musical cards, greeting cards, postcards, index cards, plastic identification cards, phone cards, credit cards, medical cards, etc.
  • No usage of white-out, glue, glitter, glitter ink, color crayons, colored pencils, colored markers, paint, string, etc.
  • No children’s art/drawings, etc.
  • Mail within mail (envelopes with other mail inside). Mail containing bubble wrap or plastic.
  • Mail from other locked facilities/No circumventing procedures/No 3-way mail.
  • No Polaroid photographs.
  • Photos larger than 4″x 6″. 
  • Photographs or pictures that are promiscuous, inappropriate, pornographic, nude, suggestive, showing gangs, gang tattoos, or hand gestures (signs) are not allowed.
  • Cash, checks (business or personal), & money orders are not allowed.

Books, Newspapers and Subscriptions

The Tehama County Jail will not accept books, newspapers, or magazines mailed from a book store or an individual. They are ONLY accepted directly from the publisher or through online services (Amazon, Barnes and Noble….etc.) on behalf of the inmate.

  • No Hardcover, spiral, plastic, metal, coloring books or calendars / Paperback only
  • Publications that are held together by ordinary staples will be rejected.
  • Books, Magazines, and Newspapers that contain photographs or pictures that display drugs, pornography, nudity, profanity, suggestive, gangs, gang tattoos, or hand gestures (signs) are not allowed
  • No CDs, DVDs, or tapes
  • No food products, cosmetic items, board games, personal clothing, etc.
  • No stationary, note pads, envelopes, stamps, pens, pencils, etc. 
  • Any material that appears to be obscene or tends to incite murder, arson, riot, racism or otherwise compromises the security of the facility will not be accepted.
  • No Calendars

How to Call an Inmate

Inmates at the Tehama County Jail cannot receive incoming phone calls, however, they have access to phones and can make outgoing calls from the inmate housing area. Phone calls are recorded and may be monitored at any time. 

California law has established the right of an arrested person to make at least three free local telephone calls when they are booked: one call to an attorney, one to a bail bond agent, and one to a relative or other personal contact.

Deposits may be made to an inmate account by phone, online, or in person at the Tehama County Jail.
