The Arapahoe County Jail (aka the Arapahoe County Detention Facility) is located in Centennial, Colorado. It is operated by the Detention Services Bureau of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department, and houses adult men and women who have been arrested by local law enforcement. The maximum capacity of this jail is 1,400 inmates.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility has been accredited through the American Correctional Association (ACA) since 1991. The medical unit, which provides medical services to inmates within the facility, has been accredited through the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) since 1989.
Originally a one-room jail house that opened in 1865, the Arapahoe County Jail is now a 300,000 square foot structure located near the Sheriff’s office that was built in 1987. After years of wear and tear and overcrowding, the jail is now outdated and dangerous.
