Bent County Jail
The Bent County Jail is located in Las Animas, Colorado. This facility is operated by the Bent County Sheriff's Department and houses up to 94 adult men and women who have been arrested by county or municipal law enforcement. The inmates are housed from minimum-security population to maximum-segregation populations.

Visiting Hours and Rules
As of March 2022, on-site visits are not allowed at the Bent County Jail due to the pandemic. However, visits are available via the HomeWAV Video Visitation platform. When on-site visits resume, they will also be conducted via HomeWAV from the jail's visiting room. Therefore, you must have a HomeWAV account in order to visit with an inmate at the Bent County Jail.
On-Site Visits
Visitation at the Bent County Jail is conducted through the HomeWAV Video Visitation platform.
All visitors are required to create an account on the HomeWAV website. Visitors under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by an adult with a valid account.
During the visit, you must be logged in under your individual credentials. No sharing visits by visitors or inmates. On-site visitations are scheduled 24 hours in advance pending visitor approval. Visitors are responsible for scheduling visits. Inmates are allowed 15 minute visits during on-site visitation.
No recording devices, cell phones, or cameras are allowed in the visitation area of the jail. Please leave these items in your vehicle.

Visiting Rules
- Inmates are not allowed to share visits. Inmates may not start a visit and allow another inmate to finish the visit.
- No rude or vulgar behavior. No profanity. No flashing or showing of body parts or lewd behavior.
- You are not allowed to use cell phones or recording devices to show body parts or lewd behavior.
- You must see the inmate you sign in to see during your visit.
- All visitors must dress appropriately
Visitation privileges may be terminated for any reason with or without cause as directed by the Jail Administrator.

The Inmate's Name and ID number must be clearly printed on the outside of the envelope or postcard. All regular inmate postal mail is scanned into the system and available to the inmates to view via the inmate kiosks.
The jail does not accept money orders, cashier’s checks, or packages from publications for inmates.
Upon their release, inmates can login into smartjailmail and enter their inmate number and password and download their Photos, Messages, and Postal Mail for FREE.

Reasons Your Mail Will Be Rejected
If your mail includes gang related materials and/or photos, graffiti, or sexually explicit photos, it will be rejected. Photo collages are not allowed.
Any mail that contains descriptions, plans, or threats of criminal activity or material that may create racial tension within the facility will be rejected.
If your mail contains correspondence for someone other than the inmate it is addressed to or inmate to inmate correspondence, it will be rejected.
You can't mail in inmate property. All packages will be returned to the sender. The only exception is medical, religious, and educational materials. You must make arrangements in advance to send in those packages. For questions or concerns, please call (970) 345-2244.
How to Call an Inmate
Inmates at the Bent County Jail cannot receive incoming phone calls, however, they have access to phones and can make outgoing calls from the inmate housing area. Phone calls are recorded and may be monitored at any time.
How to Send Money
Inmates at the Bent County Jail are able to order commissary everyday except for Wednesday.
This facility does not accept money orders or checks through the mail. You will need to come to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office during office hours (Monday- Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm) and use the kiosk in the lobby or use AccessCorrections.
