Palm Beach County West Detention Center

The Palm Beach County West Detention Center in Belle Glade, Florida, 45 miles west of Palm Beach Sheriff's Office Headquarters in West Palm Beach. This facility is operated by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Department of Corrections, and houses adults and juveniles who have been arrested by local county or municipal law enforcement.

constructed in 1983, the West Detention Center has undergone several expansions, the most recent was completed  in 2011. The facility houses minimum, medium, and maximum custody inmates and has a total bed capacity of 998 inmates. 

The West Detention Center is a program oriented facility with the majority of its housing being operated under the direct supervision model.

Inmates being held for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC), or charges from other counties will not be found by going to the VINE Link above. You will have to call the West Detention Center.

Bonding someone out of the Palm Beach County West Detention Center

If an inmate has bondable charges, he or she can bond out at any time. A bond can be paid with or without a bail bond agent. 

The method (cash/surety) and amount of money needed for bonding someone out of the Palm Beach County West Detention Center depends on their charges. Most crimes, but not all crimes, are bondable offenses.

When you pay a cash bond, it is refunded to you when all court appearances have been made and the case is discharged, dismissed, or a not guilty verdict rendered. If the arrestee fails to appear or is found guilty, the money will be forfeited. When you use a Bail Bondsman for a surety bond, you will not get a refund.

• Post a CASH BOND (cash, money orders, or certified checks only, NO personal checks) in the total amount of the bond made payable to Palm Beach County Sheriff.
• Have a bondsman post a SURETY BOND. Most often, a bondsman will charge a percentage of the bond as a fee for posting the bond and require the individual to sign a promissory note.

All visitors must register on a desktop or laptop computer at JAILVISIT.PBSO.ORG before they can schedule a visit. Android phones using the GTL/VISMOBILE APP can be used to schedule visits after your inmate approves you.

Inmate Visitation Rules

You must be checked in at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the visit or you will be considered late. Visitors arriving late will be denied entry.

• All visits are monitored and subject to recording.
• Visits must be scheduled one to seven days in advance. NO same day visits may be scheduled.
• A maximum of three visitors are allowed per visit, children count toward the total number of visitors.
• All adult visitors MUST present a Government issued VALID State ID or Driver’s License before each visit.
• Visitors who appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be admitted to the visitation center
• Visitors can only bring keys and a wallet into the Visitation Center.
• NO Cell Phones or Smart Watches are allowed in the building.
• Visitors with small children are allowed to bring in one baby bottle, and one blanket per child.
• Lockers will NOT be provided.
• All Minors MUST have a visitor’s ID number and MUST be added on the visit.
• An original birth certificate and legal guardianship paperwork is required before a minor visit.
• No school age children are allowed to visit during school hours. This includes home schooled students.
• No Smoking, gum, food, or drinks are allowed on the visitation property.
• If a visitor exits the Visitation area, the visit is over. They will not be allowed to gain reentry .
• Loud talking, excessive emotionalism, or any type of disruptive behavior will not be permitted.

Dress Code

Visitors MUST adhere to the FULL dress code policy listed below. Any violation of the dress code or visiting rules will lead to your visitation privileges being suspended or canceled.

• Visitors wearing coats, jackets, sweaters, etc., must be wearing a shirt that is proper under these items.

All incoming mail (with the exception of privileged mail) must be in the form of a postcard only, and have the inmate's booked name, jacket number, and cell assignment written clearly. Letters contained within envelopes will not be accepted and will be returned to the sender.

All postcards must meet the following requirements:

• Postcard minimum size– 3.5 inches by 5 inches.
• Postcard maximum size– 4.25 inches by 6 inches.
• Postcards must be solid color – no photos, art, or graphic designs.
• Postcards must be handwritten or typed in black or blue ink.

Acceptable Monies may still be mailed to inmates in an envelope if properly addressed to the facility. All publications and periodicals must come directly from the publisher or a licensed commercial warehousing source. 

Only new softcover paperback books are accepted. There is a limit of four books. Inmates may subscribe to no more than one daily or weekly newspaper and four periodicals.

Before you can email an inmate, you must be registered in the visitation system. Click “Register

Today,” and fill in the required information. An email is required for registration. You may also register for visitation and inmate email using the visitation kiosk at the facility.

How to Call an Inmate

Inmates at the Palm Beach County West Detention Center cannot receive incoming phone calls, however, they have access to phones and can make outgoing calls from the inmate housing area daily. Phone calls are recorded and may be monitored at any time. 

Inmate calls are “collect”, with local calls at a rate of $2.55 for the first minute and $0.05 for each additional minute. In-state long distance calls are $2.10 for the first minute and $0.35 for each additional minute. 

How to Send Money

Family and friends of inmates at the Palm Beach County West Detention Center can deposit funds into an inmate's commissary account via the Access Corrections Kiosks. 

Kiosks are located in the release lobby at the Main Detention Center, the Video Visitation Center and the visitation lobby at the West Detention Center. The machines accept Cash ($5 to $100 denominations), Credit Cards, and Debit Cards.

Deposits may be made twenty- four hours, seven days a week using the Kiosk located at the Main Detention Center. Please refer to the video visitation schedule for the hours of operations at the other two locations. There is a $4.50 convenience fee for utilizing the Corrections Kiosk. 

Remote commissary deposits may be sent using SmartDeposit. Family and friends may make deposits online through the Access Corrections, or by calling an Access Corrections agent at 866-394-0490.

Care Packages

The MyCarepack program allows family and friends to purchase a pre-assembled care package for their inmate.There is a limit of one pack per 15 days for each inmate.    

There are four different packs available for purchase:

• Snack pack $21.00
• Kosher pack $26.00
• Cookie Lovers pack $32.00

Programs For Inmates

Inmates are encouraged to participate in various program activities at the West Detention Center, such as the “Another Way” Drug educational program, religious services, and self-improvement educational programs. Other programs include:

• Drug/Alcohol Education
• Medication Assisted and Peer Support Program (MAPS)
• GED preparation and testing
• Re-Entry Services

Through partnerships with various community providers, the facility also provides reentry services to assist inmates who are transitioning back into the community.

Corrections Officers

Corrections officers are responsible for the protection of life and property within the Palm Beach County detention facilities. They deter and suppress violations of laws within the jails and ensure that rules are followed. 

Other job duties include monitoring and surveillance of inmates, performing inspections, preparing legal documents and reports, processing fingerprints and pictures for inmate identification, executing emergency plans, resolving disputes, and performing necessary restraining techniques.

Applicants must:

• Meet all Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) requirements.
• Meet all PBSO requirements specified in the online assessment.
• Be at least 21 years of age
• Be a High School Graduate or have a GED
• Be able to perform the essential functions of the job
• Possess a valid Driver’s License
• Present proof of automobile insurance upon offer of employment, free from “at fault” accidents or convictions for violation(s) of traffic law for the past 12 months.  A good driving record will include no Driver’s License suspensions in the past three years.

Corrections Department employees are required to work overtime, with and without notice, and must be available for emergency call-in overtime.
