Bonding someone out of the Athens-Clarke County Jail
If an inmate has bondable charges, he or she can bond out at any time. A bond can be paid with or without a bail bond agent.
The method (cash/surety) and amount of money needed for bonding someone out of the Athens-Clarke County Jail depends on their charges. Most crimes, but not all crimes, are bondable offenses.
- Cash/Property Bond
When you pay a cash bond, it is refunded to you when all court appearances have been made and the case is discharged, dismissed, or a not guilty verdict rendered. If the arrestee fails to appear or is found guilty, the money will be forfeited.
Please note that cash bonds and property bonds require money orders—no cash, checks, or debit/credit cards. The stores located in Pearson that sell money orders close around midnight.
Property bonds require a valid photo ID and a $20 money order per bond. Property value (land value) must be double that of bond amount. (example: $200 cash bond would require property worth $400)
- Surety Bond
When you use a Bail Bondsman for a surety bond, you will not get a refund. Surety bonds in Athens-Clarke County are only accepted from registered bail agents.

Programs For Inmates
The Diversion Center
The Diversion Center is designed to house non-violent offenders who have been sentenced to a work-release program and who do not have to be housed in the main jail complex. This facility also operates as a Transition Center welcoming the community's returning citizens who are completing their Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) sentences.
The Diversion and Transition Center helps inmates with employment stability, economic independence, and self-sufficiency before their release. The goal is to give these inmates the foundational tools that will increase their chances of long-term success while reducing their likelihood of recidivism.
