Bibb County Jail

The Bibb County Jail—aka the Bibb County Corrections Unit—is located in Macon, Georgia and is operated by the Bibb County Sheriff's Department. This jail houses adult males and females—both felony and misdemeanor offenders—who have been arrested by local county or municipal law enforcement.

The Bibb County Jail incarcerates both male and female inmates 17 years of age and older who have either been charged or convicted of misdemeanors or felony crimes. Sentences on these crimes range from one year in jail to life without parole. Sentences above one year are served in other facilities run by the state and federal governments.

The Bibb County Corrections Unit currently houses over 900+ inmates. The facility includes a fully operational Infirmary that is staffed by three full time nurses, two part time nurses and a part time physician to meet the medical needs of the inmates.

The jail also has a fully equipped kitchen where meals are prepared for the inmates by inmates who are under the supervision of Jail staff. Supervised inmates handle all building maintenance, laundry, cleaning, etc., in house.

The Bibb County Jail (Bibb County Corrections Unit) should not be confused with the Bibb County Detention Center (see below in Inmate Programs).

Anyone who is arrested in Bibb County will be taken to the county jail. The Detention Center—located on Hazel Street in Macon—is for sentenced inmates who have been assigned to work release or community service.

Bonding someone out of the Bibb County Jail

If an inmate has bondable charges, he or she can bond out at any time. A bond can be paid with or without a bail bond agent.

The method (cash/surety) and amount of money needed for bonding someone out of the Bibb County Jail depends on their charges. Most crimes, but not all crimes, are bondable offenses.

  • Cash/Property Bond

When you pay a cash bond, it is refunded to you when all court appearances have been made and the case is discharged, dismissed, or a not guilty verdict rendered. If the arrestee fails to appear, the money will be forfeited.

To sign a cash bond, you must bring a photo identification card and enough cash to cover the bond. The sheriff's office only accepts paper money (no change allowed). The entire amount of the cash bond must be paid before the inmate is released.

  • Surety Bond

When you use a Bail Bondsman for a surety bond, you will be required to pay a fee (equal to 15 percent of the bond amount) that will not be refunded.
