Clayton County Jail
The Clayton County Jail is located inside the Harold R. Banke Justice Center in Jonesboro, Georgia and is operated by the Clayton County Sheriff's Department. This jail houses adult male and female inmates who have been arrested by local county or municipal law enforcement.
The primary function of this jail is receiving, processing, and housing individuals who have been charged with a felony and/or misdemeanor criminal violation. Those who are unable to make bond will remain in custody until they appear in court.
The jail also houses sentenced inmates. Some inmates are sentenced to serve time for misdemeanor offenses (less than one year) and remain in the county facility for the duration of their sentence.
Inmates that receive a court sentence of more than one year are considered inmates of the Georgia Department of Corrections and remain in the county facility until they may be received by a state prison.
