Mitchell County Correctional Institute

This 159 bed facility houses 135 state inmates and 24 county offenders. They provide general labor for Mitchell County, by using their inmates to provide work on country roads and other Mitchell County Government projects. Female inmates and juveniles are not held at this facility.

Visiting Hours and Rules

Visitation for inmates at the Mitchell County Correctional Institute is on Saturdays, Sundays, and County-observed Holidays from 9:00am to 1:00pm. All visitors must be approved and on the inmate’s visitation list prior to their visit. 

A visitor may visit ONLY the inmate who has been approved and on the inmate’s list. Each visitor under 16 years of age MUST be accompanied by an Adult on the inmate’s list. 

No weapons, drugs, cellphones, or contraband is allowed in the visiting room -- Cellphones are not allowed anywhere on the grounds. Visitors' phones must remain secured in their vehicle. 

All visitors and their vehicles are subjected to be searched at any time while on County Prison Property. Visitors do have access to restroom facilities during visitation.

How to Call an Inmate

Inmates at the Mitchell County Correctional Institute cannot receive incoming phone calls. However, the inmates do have access to phones and can make outgoing calls from the inmate housing area during daytime hours. Phone calls are recorded and may be monitored at any time. 

Inmate phone service is provided by ICSolutions. Phone calls are 18 cents per minute and each call may last a maximum of 15 minutes. Inmates may utilize money in their account when making calls, or you can place funds for phone calls on a separate account by calling 1(888) 506-8407.

How to Send Money

To deposit funds to an inmate’s account, visit AccessCorrections.com or call (866)345-1884. You will need the inmate’s identification number. Inmates may also receive a care package once a quarter. Visit www.mitchellcountypackage.com for the latest updates on this package program.

Programs For Inmates

The mission of the Mitchell County Correctional Institution (MCCI) is to protect the public and provide work details to the county. The inmate workforce serves to meet the needs of local governments while fulfilling a contractual obligation to the Georgia  Department of Corrections  by providing safe and secure housing for inmates in compliance with all applicable policies and procedures. 

The facility is governed by the Mitchell County Board of Commissioners and also by the standard operating procedures of the Georgia Department of Corrections. The following are services that the inmate workforce provides.

• Road department detail including dirt roads
• Maintenance to all county departments
• Maintain all recreation projects
• Perform all lawn care for the county facilities
• Maintain county dumpsters
• Handle tree removal on roads

The jail also provides academic programs, counseling, and religious activities.
