Visiting Hours and Rules

The public visiting hours at James A. Musick Facility are: Friday - Monday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. The last sign-up is taken at 4:45 p.m.

Each visit will last a minimum of 30 minutes.
Detainees may receive only one visit per day.

General Rules

All visitors must arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit time for processing. Adult visitors must have a government-issued photo identification card to enter the facility.

Minors who are visiting must be accompanied by an adult guardian (18 years or older). Minors must not be left unaccompanied in the waiting room, visiting room or any other area.

Visiting Restrictions

  • All social visits with family and friends are non-contact.
  • If visitors are or appear to be intoxicated, the visit will not be allowed.
  • All visitors are subject to search.
  • Visitors are not allowed to pass or attempt to pass any items to detainees.
  • Visitors are not allowed to carry any items into the visitation area.

Search Procedures
All visitors are subject to a pat-down search of their person, an inspection of their belongings, and a metal scan search. If you refuse to cooperate you will not be admitted. No firearms or weapons of any kind are permitted. No electronic devices (cell phones, pagers, radios, etc.) are permitted.

Attorney Visits
There are no restrictions on visitation times by legal representatives.

A list of pro bono (free) legal organizations is posted in all detainee housing units. If a detainee wants to see a lawyer or paralegal from that organization, it is their responsibility to contact them for an appointment.

Consular Visits
Consular officials are allowed to meet with their detained nationals at any time.  Prior arrangements should be made with the ICE Supervisory Deportation Officer whenever possible. Consular officials should bring appropriate credentials when they come to the facility. The ICE Supervisory Deportation Officer can be reached at (714) 712-8074.

Clergy Visits
Clergy may visit detainees at any time, but must make prior arrangements with the Chaplain’s Office

All mail sent to detainees must include the last four digits of their A-number (File Number), plus the sender’s name and address. For safety reasons, all incoming mail is subject to screening for contraband. The mail is not read upon opening, only inspected by the delivering officer.

Detainees being removed from the United States are allowed one small piece of luggage, which can be sent after getting approval from the Supervisory Deportation Officer. For security reasons, no electronic devices (cell phones, electric razors, laptop computers, radios, etc.) are accepted.

How to Call an Inmate

Detainees at James A. Musick Facility cannot receive incoming calls. To leave an urgent message, you must call (714) 935-6940. Leave the detainee’s full name, alien registration number, your name, and a telephone number where you can be reached.

How to Send Money

To Post a Delivery Bond

Delivery bonds are posted when a person has been taken into ICE custody and placed into removal proceedings while in the United States. When posting a delivery bond, you must show proof of identity.

Bonds for aliens detained by ICE may be posted at ICE ERO bond acceptance offices nationwide, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., local time. Acceptable forms of payment are: money orders, cashier’s checks or certified checks. Payments must be made payable to “U.S. Department of Homeland Security” or “Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”
