General Rules

Detainees are allowed 30 minutes for a visit. All visitors must arrive 45 minutes prior to the scheduled visit time for processing.

Adult visitors must present a valid, photo ID to enter the visiting room at McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility. Visitors must be 18 years of age or older, or accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. All visitors must have a valid photo ID. 

• All social visits are non-contact.
• All visitors are subject to search while in the facility.
• Visitors are not allowed to pass or attempt to pass any items to detainees.
• Visitors are not allowed to carry any items into the visitation area.

Other Visits

Attorney Visits
Attorneys and paralegals may visit detainees 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This includes holidays.

Consular Visits
Consular officials are allowed to meet with their detained nationals at any time. Whenever possible, prior arrangements should be made with the ICE Supervisory Deportation Officer. All consular officials should bring appropriate credentials.

Clergy Visits
Clergy are allowed to visit detainees housed at Cass County Jail at any time. However, arrangements must be made in advance with the Chaplain’s Office.

All mail sent to detainees must include the last four digits of their Alien number, plus the sender’s name and address. Staff does not read the mail but does screen for contraband. 

A detainee may receive items necessary for travel or release from agency custody with approval of the ICE Deportation Officer. Before sending packages to detainees, contact the Chicago Deportation Section at (312) 347-2400.

Detainees who are being removed from the United States are allowed to have one small piece of luggage. You must get approval from the Supervisory Deportation Officer. For security reasons, no electronic devices (cell phones, electric razors, laptop computers, radios, etc.) are allowed.

How to Call an Inmate

You can't call a detainee at McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility, but you are allowed to leave a message. If you need to contact a detainee, call (815) 338-9396. Your message must include the Detainee’s full name, Alien registration number, and a telephone number where you can be reached.

How to Send Money

When a detainee receives money in the mail, it's taken to the processing area and placed into their account. The processing officer will provide a receipt for all funds received. Detainees should not have cash sent to them in the mail.

To Post a Delivery Bond

Delivery bonds are posted when a person has been taken into ICE custody and placed into removal proceedings while they are in the United States. When you post a delivery bond, you are required to show proof of identity.

Bonds for aliens detained by ICE can be posted at ICE ERO bond acceptance offices nationwide, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., local time. Acceptable forms of payment are: 

• money orders
• cashier’s checks 
• certified checks

Payments must be made payable to “U.S. Department of Homeland Security” or “Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”
