Visiting Hours and Rules

Visiting hours at Hudson County Jail are:

Mondays:            8 a.m. – 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Tuesdays:           3 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Wednesdays:      8 a.m. – 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Thursdays:          10:30 am – 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.

General Rules

Detainees are allowed 30 minutes for visitation. To allow enough time for processing through security, visitors must arrive 45 minutes prior to their scheduled visiting time.

All adult visitors must have a valid photo ID. Minors must be accompanied by an adult guardian at least 18 years of age. Visitors are not allowed to carry any items into the visitation area.

All visitors are subject to a pat-down search of their person, an inspection of their belongings, and a metal scan search. If you refuse, you will not be allowed to visit.

Free Parking is located in the rear parking lot at entrance to the facility grounds.

Attorney Visits

Attorneys are authorized to visit their clients daily between 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Consular Visits

Consular officials are allowed to meet with their detained nationals at any time. When possible, arrangements should be made with the ICE Supervisory Deportation Officer in advance by calling (212) 863-3401. All consular officials should bring appropriate credentials. 

Clergy Visits

Clergy are allowed to visit detainees housed at Hudson County Jail at any time. Arrangements must be made in advance through the chaplain's office.

When sending a detainee mail, you must include the last four digits of their Alien number, plus your name and address. The staff at Hudson County Jail does not read incoming detainee mail, but they do screen it for contraband. 

Sending Packages

Detainees at Hudson County Jail are not allowed to receive care packages. However, a detainee may receive items that are considered necessary for travel or release from agency custody with approval of the ICE Deportation Officer.

Detainees who are being removed from the United States are allowed one small piece of luggage. This can be sent after receiving approval from the Supervisory Deportation Officer. For security reasons, no electronic devices (cell phones, electric razors, laptop computers, radios, etc.) are accepted.

How to Call an Inmate

You can't call a detainee at Hudson County Jail. However, you can call (212) 863-3401 if you need to leave an urgent message.

Your message will be given to the detainee. It should include the detainee's full name, their alien registration number, and a telephone number where you can be reached.

How to Send Money

You can send money to a detainee at Hudson County Jail by mailing a money order or cashier's check directly to the detainee. Do not send cash. 

The processing officer will put the money into the detainee's account and issue a receipt. Cashier’s checks and money orders must include the detainee’s full name and A-number.

To Post a Delivery Bond

When a detainee in ICE custody is placed into removal proceedings while they are in the United States, a delivery bond may be posted. When you post a delivery bond, you are required to show proof of identity.

Bonds for aliens detained by ICE can be posted at ICE ERO bond acceptance offices nationwide, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., local time. Acceptable forms of payment are: 

  • money orders
  • cashier’s checks 
  • certified checks

Payments must be made payable to “U.S. Department of Homeland Security” or “Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”
