General Rules

All Visits are one hour non-contact visits. Visitors must present a valid, government-issued photo ID to enter the Bluebonnet Detention Facility. Minors must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older at all times.

All visitors are subject to search while in the facility. This includes a pat-down search of their person, an inspection of their belongings, and a metal scan search. Individuals refusing to cooperate with a reasonable search will not be admitted. 

Visitors are not allowed to carry any items into the visitation area, and they are not allowed to pass any items to detainees.

No firearms or weapons of any kind are permitted. No electronic devices (cell phones, pagers, radios, etc.) are permitted in the secure areas of this facility.

Attorney Visits

Legal representatives of detainees may visit their clients 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

Consular Visits

Consular officials are allowed to meet with their detained nationals at any time. When possible, arrangements should be made with the ICE Supervisory Deportation Officer in advance. All consular officials should bring appropriate credentials. 

Clergy Visits

Clergy are allowed to visit detainees housed at Bluebonnet Detention Facility at any time. Arrangements must be made in advance through the chaplain's office.

When you send letters to detainees, you must include their name and A-number in the mailing address on the envelope. You must also include your name and address in the envelope's "return address" section. Staff does not read incoming inmate mail, but they do check it for contraband.

Sending Packages

Detainees are not allowed to receive care packages. However, a detainee may receive items that are considered necessary for travel or release from agency custody with approval of the ICE Deportation Officer.

Detainees who are being removed from the United States are allowed to have one small piece of luggage. If a detainee does not already have baggage, one 40 lb bag can be sent/delivered to him/her after receiving approval from the Supervisory Detention and Deportation Officer. 

For security reasons, no electronic devices (cell phones, electric razors, laptop computers, radios, etc.) will be accepted.

How to Call an Inmate

You can't call a detainee at Bluebonnet Detention Facility. However, you can leave an urgent message by calling (325) 823-8031.

The message should include the detainee's full name, their alien registration number, and a telephone number where you can be reached.

How to Send Money

To send money to a detainee at Bluebonnet Detention Facility, mail a money order or cashier's check directly to the detainee. Do not send cash. 

The processing officer will deposit the money into the detainee's account and issue a receipt. Cashier’s checks and money orders must include the detainee’s full name and A-number.

To Post a Delivery Bond

When a detainee in ICE custody is placed into removal proceedings while they are in the United States, a delivery bond may be posted. When you post a delivery bond, you are required to show proof of identity.

Bonds for aliens detained by ICE can be posted at ICE ERO bond acceptance offices nationwide, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., local time. Acceptable forms of payment are: 

  • money orders
  • cashier’s checks 
  • certified checks

Payments must be made payable to “U.S. Department of Homeland Security” or “Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”
