Visiting Hours and Rules

Visiting hours at IAH Polk Adult Detention Facility are Wednesday through Sunday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

General Rules

Detainees at IAH Polk Adult Detention Facility are allowed one hour for visitation. A maximum of two adults and two children are allowed per visit. If family members are traveling a long distance, the Assistant Warden may authorize more time.

All adult visitors must have a valid photo ID to enter the IAH Polk Adult Detention Facility. Minors must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older at all times. You must arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled visiting time to allow for processing through security.

All visits are non-contact visits. Visitors are not allowed to carry any items into the visitation area or pass any items to detainees. Electronic devices (cell phones, pagers, radios, etc.) are prohibited in the visiting room.

All visitors (adults and minors) are subject to search, including a pat-down search of their person, an inspection of belongings, and a metal scan search. If you refuse to cooperate with a reasonable search, you will not be allowed into the visiting room. 

Attorney Visits

Attorneys and/or paralegals are permitted to visit detainees seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., including holidays.

Consular Visits

Consular officials are allowed to meet with their detained nationals at any time. When possible, arrangements should be made with the ICE Supervisory Deportation Officer in advance by calling (936) 967-1700. All consular officials should bring appropriate credentials. 

Clergy Visits

Clergy are allowed to visit detainees housed at IAH Polk Adult Detention Facility at any time. Arrangements must be made in advance through the chaplain's office.

You must include the detainee's name and A-number in the mailing address of all detainee mail. You must also include your name and address in the envelope's "return address" section. Staff does not read incoming inmate mail, but they do check it for contraband.

Sending Packages

Detainees are not allowed to receive care packages. However, with the approval of the ICE Deportation Officer, they are allowed to receive items that are considered necessary for travel or release from agency custody. Before sending packages to detainees, contact the Facility Warden at:

Detainees who are being removed from the United States are allowed to have one small piece of luggage. If a detainee does not already have baggage, they may have one 40 lb bag sent  after receiving approval from the Supervisory Detention and Deportation Officer. 

For security reasons, electronic devices (cell phones, electric razors, laptop computers, radios, etc.) can not be included in the luggage.

How to Call an Inmate

You can't call a detainee at IAH Polk Adult Detention Facility. However, you can call (936) 967-8000 if you need to leave an urgent message.

Your message should include the detainee's full name, their alien registration number, and a telephone number where you can be reached. It will be given to the detainee as soon as possible.

How to Send Money

To send money to a detainee at IAH Polk Adult Detention Facility, you must mail a money order or cashier's check directly to the detainee. Do not send cash. 

The processing officer will deposit the money order or check into the detainee's account and issue a receipt. Cashier’s checks and money orders must include the detainee’s full name and A-number.

To Post a Delivery Bond

When a detainee in ICE custody is placed into removal proceedings while they are in the United States, a delivery bond may be posted. When you post a delivery bond, you are required to show proof of identity.

Bonds for aliens detained by ICE can be posted at ICE ERO bond acceptance offices nationwide, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., local time. Acceptable forms of payment are: 

  • money orders
  • cashier’s checks 
  • certified checks

Payments must be made payable to “U.S. Department of Homeland Security” or “Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”
