Colorado Correctional Center (Camp George West)

Part of the Denver Correctional Complex, the Colorado Correctional Center (AKA Camp George West) is located in Golden, Colorado and houses minimum-security inmates. This small facility is a work camp that can house a maximum of 150 inmates. 

The inmates at Camp George West work Colorado Correctional Industries, including the Department of Transportation, Division of Wildlife, and State Patrol. Educational opportunities are also available (Basic Adult Education, GED), as well as treatment programs.

Before it became a prison work camp, Camp George West was a military base for the Colorado National Guard, and it was used as a rifle range. In addition to the camp, this facility now has a police training academy and an emergency operations center.

Camp George West is located near the junction of West Colfax Avenue and Interstate 70, which is technically three miles east of Golden. It sits on 100 acres, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Visiting Hours and Rules

Before you visit an inmate at Colorado Correctional Center, you must first fill out a visiting application. A parent or guardian needs to complete a Form 300-01G Authorization for Minor Child Visitation if a visitor is under 18. Incomplete applications may be rejected.

If you are traveling a long distance to visit or wish to request an extended visit, you can complete and submit a Special Visitation Application.

You must have an appointment to visit an inmate at CCC, and that can be arranged by calling (303) 273-1763 or by emailing [email protected]  between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Appointments cannot be made more than seven days in advance. E-mails received after the designated scheduling hours will be processed the next business day.  E-mails are for visiting appointments only and will be processed in the order they are received. A reply confirmation email will be sent once the visit has been approved or denied.

You must have a photo ID to visit an inmate at Camp George West. When you are processed, you will receive a hand stamp, be searched, and go through a metal detector. All items of contraband found on a visitor during a search will be immediately seized.

You are not allowed to bring books of any kind, pagers, telephones, credit cards, cameras or film of any kind, briefcases, cosmetics, prescription drugs (other than the amount needed for the duration of the visit and as noted on the prescription), or other items which require shakedown or search procedures thus causing delay in facilitating visits.

You can’t bring food into a visiting area, with the exception of baby food. Baby food containers entering the visiting area must be factory sealed.

Two (2) baby bottles containing food, water, milk, or juice may be taken into the visiting area for each baby. Diaper bags may be taken into the visiting area with two (2) clean diapers, two (2) baby toys which can be easily checked for contraband, and one (1) change of clothes. The diaper bag must be left under staff supervision.

Visiting area vending machines are for use by visitors to obtain snack food items and beverages while visiting.

The dress code for visits is extremely conservative. Do not wear any provocative or revealing clothing, avoid gang-related clothing, and make sure skirts and dresses hit below the knee. Don’t wear solid green or solid orange, and leave your coats, scarves, and hats in the car.

You can’t send packages directly to an inmate. Instead, you must use the inmate care package program, which is available through Union Supply Direct at certain times throughout the year. For more information or to place an order, visit https://coinmatepackage.com/.  

You do have the option to email an inmate using JPay, but first you need to create an account, and you will need the inmate's DOC number. Inmates can only respond to emails via regular U.S. Mail.

​Programs For ​Inmates

While there are basic education programs available to inmates at Camp George West (Adult Basic Education, GED, Parenting, Computer Skills), this is a work camp where the inmates work with different Correctional Industries. Jobs available include DOT crews, division of wildlife, and state patrol.
