Four Mile Correctional Center
Four Mile Correctional Center is Colorado state prison for male inmates who are minimum or medium-security level. It is located in Canon City, Colorado, and is part of the East Canon Complex. The maximum capacity at Four Mile Correctional Center is 525 inmates.
Colorado prisons were the first in the nation to give inmates computer tablets, and inmates at Four Mile Correctional Center were some of the first to receive the devices. The inmates are allowed to use the tablets in their cells between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
The tablets can be used to make phone calls, send messages, play games, and stream music and ebooks.
Because accessing a prison phone can sometimes be extremely difficult (the lines can get very long), prison officials believe that the tablets will help reduce the friction around the wall phones.
Inmates can’t download anything to their tablets and they don’t have internet access. The tablet cases are clear to prevent tampering, and the screws were painted with nail polish so inmates can’t take them apart.
The tablets have increased inmate communication with their family and friends. However, they must pay for every call they make and email they send, and they must also pay for a subscription to access the game, book, and music database.
Inmates say that the tablets allow them to stay out of trouble and focus on something positive while doing their time.

When you enter prison grounds, you, your vehicle, and your property are subject to a search. If you refuse, you will be denied visits and will be required to leave the property.
If you are bringing an infant to a visit, you are allowed to bring the following items:
- Baby food containers, but they must be factory sealed

Vending machines are available so you can buy food and beverages for yourself and the inmate during the visit.
You are not allowed to bring in any electronic devices or cameras of any kind. You can’t bring books, cosmetics, credit cards, or anything else that will require a shakedown or search that causes a delay.
It’s best just to leave most items in your car. You must have a Photo ID, but other than that, keep it simple and just bring in your car keys and money for the vending machines (your inmate will thank you).
At a minimum, you will be subject to an electronic search by going through a metal detector during processing. Pat searches will be conducted on as many visitors as time permits upon visitor entry.
A short hug and an appropriate closed mouth kiss is permitted at the beginning and end of each visit. During visits, inmates may hold hands with their visitor.
