Autry State Prison
Autry State Prison is a medium-security prison for male inmates located in Pelham, Georgia. The facility opened in 1993, and it can house up to 1,698 offenders.
The mission of Autry State Prison is to ensure public safety and effectively house offenders while operating a safe and secure facility. It houses general population, medium-security inmates due to their sentence, offense, or behavior, and it has a capacity for housing 650 Level II Mental Health inmates, a 96 bed, In-House Transitional Unit, and a 42-bed Accommodated Living Unit. Autry State Prison also has the Bainbridge Probation Substance Abuse Treatment Center.
The inmate housing at Autry features one building with four separate open bunk dormitories. Each dormitory consists of 38 double bunks. There are six buildings with two living units containing 96 beds each, and three living units in these buildings have triple bunks on the bottom range only. One other building consists of 86 beds for segregation and 47 beds for isolation and protective custody. This facility also houses a C.E.R.T. team, a Tactical Squad, and a Fire Station.
Autry State Prison was one of nine Georgia state prisons implicated in an FBI sting operation announced in February 2016. The agency indicted 47 correction officers who agreed to deliver illegal drugs while in uniform. These charges were "part of a larger public corruption investigation into Georgia Correctional Facilities.”
