High Desert State Prison

High Desert State Prison is a mixed-custody state prison for male inmates that is located in Indian Springs, Nevada. It is the largest correctional facility in the Nevada Department of Corrections and one of the most technologically-advanced prisons in the United States.

The current inmate capacity at High Desert State Prison is 4,176, and the population continues to rise as the state expands the facility, with plans of transforming it into the Southern Nevada Prison Complex.

This facility is surrounded by an electric fence, seven armed guard towers, and armed perimeter patrol.  Inmates are housed in 12 housing units that are divided into smaller pods. The complex totals approximately 1,576,000 square feet of space. The institution opened September 1, 2000 and is the reception center for Southern Nevada.
