Garden State Youth Correctional Facility
Garden State Youth Correctional Facility is a New Jersey state prison for young adult offenders between the ages of 18 and 30. This prison opened in 1968 and is located in the Crosswicks section of Chesterfield Township. It can house approximately 1,500 inmates.
The offenders at Garden State Youth Correctional Facility are required to participate in a full day of educational classes, vocational training, or a job. Inmates in the minimum unit can work in supportive roles, like maintenance, janitorial, and landscaping.

A maximum of four adults and five children is allowed if space permits. Inmates are allowed one visit per week.

Programs For Inmates
Inmates are required to participate in educational classes, vocational training, or a job. They can earn their high school diploma while incarcerated, and the vocational courses include building trades, cabinetry and woodworking, computer programming, cosmetology, music, workforce lab, culinary arts, and landscaping. This facility also offers religious programming, recreation, and an art/hobby program.
Therapeutic Community
The Therapeutic Community (TC) is a substance abuse program administered by the Gateway Foundation. The purpose is to teach social behavior in order to enable the inmate to develop appropriate social skills and a sober/drug free lifestyle.
Thinking for a Change (T4C)
Thinking for a Change (T4C). T4C is a 10-week cognitive behavioral program, endorsed by the National Institute of Corrections as a best practice approach for reducing recidivism.
Successful Transition and Reentry Series (STARS)
STARS is a 12-week release preparatory program designed to address each major re-entry barrier faced by the returning offender. Chapters include employment, housing, transportation, education, family reunification, finances, and others. The STARS curriculum also includes an inmate workbook titled Living on the Outside. STARS course provides offenders nearing their release, a structured and detailed approach to addressing each major re-entry barrier that ex-offenders face when returning to community life.
Cage Your Rage (CYR)
Cage Your Rage is designed to help offenders recognize their angry feelings, learn their cause, and deal with them in a responsible way.
Successful Employment through Lawful Living and Conflict Management (SEALL)
SEALL is a continuation of the STARS program with a specific focus on maintaining employment. Participants learn how to maintain prosocial behavior at work when conflict occurs on the job.
Substance Abuse Disorder Programs
The NJDOC offers a number of programs to inmates that address the issue of substance use disorder. These include, but are not limited to, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and 12 Step Substance Abuse Group.
NJ STEP Program
Those students, who possess a GED or High School Diploma, may choose to enroll m the "NJ STEP Program." This college program is sponsored through Rutgers University and students may earn college credits towards an Associates Degree.
Paralegal Training
An inmate who has a High School Diploma or GED and who expresses an interest in helping other inmates with their legal appeals and other matters may take this course. Once trained, inmates can be hired to work as a paralegal in the Library.
