Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility
Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility is a New Jersey state prison for young offenders ages 18 to 30. This facility is located in the Annandale section of Clinton Township, and it can house approximately 800 inmates.
Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility is situated on 747 acres of rolling hills in Annandale. The Main Compound includes inmates classified as low medium and minimum custody. The facility’s close Custody Units are utilized for inmates who require temporary, maximum security status.
Those inmates housed in the Full Minimum Custody Unit work on the facility’s farm, on highway details and in local communities.
This prison was first used in 1913 as a farm facility for the mentally ill. In 1929, it was changed to Annandale Farms, which was a corrections facility for males between the ages of 16 and 26.
Mountainview’s recent history has been difficult. Carl J. Epps Jr. was an inmate who was murdered inside the prison in 2010. And, in 2012, inmate Joshua Jones was also murdered. There have also been inappropriate relationships between guards and inmates, assaults, and drug offenses.
