Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Institution houses level 2 female inmates, as well as those with special needs. It is located in Columbia, South Carolina, and is operated by the South Carolina Department of Corrections. The prison houses the State of South Carolina death row for women.

In October 2019, prison health care staff revealed that women who reported mental health symptoms were punished with nutraloaf and were denied hygiene items. As a result, the warden, Marian Boulware, resigned in January 2020.

Visiting Applications

Each inmate is allowed to have up to fifteen (15) approved visitors on her visiting list. You can apply for visiting privileges if the inmate wants you to visit. They will send,  "Request for Visiting Privileges," forms to their prospective visitors. 

Every individual must complete this form and forward it to Visitation through the Central Visitation Center for processing.  

Once the application form has been properly completed, submitted, and approved, the individual is added to the inmate's visiting list.  The inmate is provided a copy of her approved visiting list once a week if a change is made during that week. IT IS THE INMATE'S RESPONSIBILITY TO ADVISE HIS/HER VISITOR(S) OF THEIR APPROVAL.

Visiting Rules

Visitation is an important component of the rehabilitation process and is conducted in the least restrictive manner possible while meeting requirements of safety, security, classification, and space availability.

Based on security concerns, all personal devices that communicate wirelessly, including activity fitness trackers and smart watches, are prohibited from being brought into SCDC institutions. 

All visitors age 18 and older are required to submit to a pat/frisk search in addition to the existing search procedures. Female visitors will be searched by female employees only. Male visitors may be searched by employees of either gender. 

Inmates are not allowed to have visitors during the reception and evaluation process unless they remain in the Reception and Evaluation Center longer than thirty (30) days and the visitor is on the approved visiting list. 

After thirty (30) days only an inmates' parents, grandparents, spouse, and/or children are eligible to visit at R&E. In order to schedule a visit at R&E on the approved list after 30 days, contact 803-896-2000 between the hours of 8:00-12:00 on Mondays and Tuesdays ONLY.

How to Send Money

Cooper Trust Fund Accounts

Every inmate has a Cooper Trust Fund Account that allows them to make purchases in the institution. Mail a Money Order

Family members and friends can make deposits into an inmate's Cooper Trust Fund account through GTL. Other than the cost to obtain a money order, there are no fees to deposit it, but money orders must be mailed and the deposit slip that must be sent with them must be read electronically and processed before the funds become available. Programs For Inmates

Special Mission: This institution houses special needs women 17 years of age and older. The institution also functions as a major special management unit with the ability to house female death row inmates and county safekeepers.

Education: Literacy, GED preparation, and high school courses.

Vocational Training: Welding and office skills courses.

Industries: Apparel plant produces different articles of apparel used by SCDC county designated facilities, and other state agencies.

Health Care: Routine medical and dental care provided on site with 24-hour medical coverage. Medical assessments completed for all new inmates received at the Reception and Evaluation Unit. Serves as a regional medical facility for female offenders who are pregnant, physically and mentally challenged, and those with debilitating conditions and disabilities which require 24-hour medical supervision.

Programs: Religious services, volunteer services , Pre-Release Classes, Alcoholics Anonymous, Habilitation Services (outpatient counseling). SisterCare for Abused and Battered Women, Impact of Crime classes, and other community partnership programs to include but not limited to the following: Girl Scouts Beyond Bars; Greyhound Pets of SC; Parenting Education; Parents Anonymous;Storybook Project; Junior Achievement; YWCA Professional Skills Development; HIV Support Group; Breast Cancer Survivors; Words Travel; Friends of Corrections Clothing Program and an Addictions Treatment Unit.

Satellite Activity: Women's Reception and Evaluation Center opened January 1993. It processes all female offenders entering the Department of Corrections.

Camille Griffin Graham CI is the only prison in South Carolina that participates in the Girl Scouts of the USA Beyond Bars program, allowing Girl Scouts visitation/bonding with their incarcerated mothers.
