C.A. Holliday Transfer Facility

The Reverend C.A. Holliday Transfer Facility is a prison located in Huntsville, Texas. It serves as an intake and processing facility for transient inmates where they conduct various assessments, including substance abuse screenings, that determines which prison the inmate will be housed in. This facility can house a maximum of 2,128 male inmates.

Agricultural operations at the Reverend C.A. Holliday Transfer Facility include Edible and Field Crops, Egg Laying Operation, Farm Shop, Regional Pest Control, Security Horses, Security Pack Canines, Swine Finishing Operation, and Veterinary Clinic.

Holliday also assists the Goree Unit in the Horse Breeding Program.

Holliday is one of the largest transfer facilities in Texas. It is located across the street from the Texas Prison Museum. This facility is an industrial-scale complex with sheet metal siding and low sloping roofs.

Robert Perkinson, author of Texas Tough: The Rise of America's Prison Empire, said that the "hastily-constructed" transfer unit "looks like an assemblage of discount tire outlets." He added that the only features that indicate it's a prison is the razor wire and guard towers.

Huntsville resident and former warden Jim Willett said that Holliday is "a giant tin barn that serves as Texas's prison purgatory, the place you go between jail and the real thing."
