Gib Lewis Unit

The Gib Lewis Unit is a prison for male inmates that is located in Woodville, Texas. This facility is managed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and can house a maximum of 2,232 inmates. Inmates at this facility are classified G1 through G5 or Administrative Segregation.

Visiting Hours and Rules

The visiting hours at the Gib Lewis Unit are on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Visits with inmates in the expansion cellblock are by appointment only.

Two adults (18+) are allowed to visit an inmate. Minor children are not counted in the visiting number. A visiting period lasts for about two hours and each inmate may have one visit per weekend. Limited physical contact between eligible offenders and their visitors may be allowed if the visitors are immediate family.

Dress Code

The dress code at Gib Lewis Unit is strictly enforced. If you are not dressed appropriately, your visit will be denied.

  • Clothing that is tight fitting, revealing, or made with see-through fabrics is prohibited.
  • Clothing with pictures or language that may be considered profane or offensive is not allowed. 
  • Shorts, skirts no shorter than three (3) inches above the middle of the knee while standing, capri pants, or long pants are allowed. Length is not restricted for children ages 10 and younger. 
  • Sandals, flip-flops, and open-toe shoes are allowed
  • Sleeveless shirts and dresses are allowed, but must cover the shoulders.

What can you bring to a visit?

A photo ID is required for all visitors 18 years of age and older. All other items must be kept in your vehicle except: 

  • $25 cash (in coins) for the vending machines
  • A small wallet, clear plastic bag, or change purse
  • Visitors with infants or small children may bring no more than three diapers, baby wipes, and two baby bottles (“sippy” cup for toddlers). These items must be stored in a clear plastic bag.

All letters sent to offenders must include the offender’s name, TDCJ number, and unit address. Inmates can have newspapers, magazines, and books, but you can't mail them directly. They must be mailed by the publisher, publication supplier, or bookstore.

ECOMMDIRECT

You can send money to an inmate or make purchases for them from the prison commissary using ECOMMDIRECT. Click here and enter offender number, name and confirm offender. Add deposit amount to your cart and checkout using a Visa, MasterCard, or Discover card for a service fee.

Friends and family can make purchases each quarter for eligible offenders. The maximum spend is $60, with the exception of the 4th quarter. During October through December, the holiday spend limit is $85.

You can choose from nearly 100 top selling items and purchase them for your inmate instead of sending cash. Items include snacks, hygiene products, and correspondence supplies.

Programs For Inmates

Special Treatment Programs: Administrative Segregation Intermediate Care Program (ASICP)

  • This four month program assists offenders in the transition from administrative segregation to general population. The program addresses dysfunctional thinking patterns, life and coping skills, problem solving, and building/maintaining appropriate and healthy relationships.

Educational Programs: Literacy (Adult Basic Education/GED), Special Education, CHANGES/Pre-Release, Cognitive Intervention

Career and Technology Programs: Electrical Trades; Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration; Mill and Cabinetmaking

Additional Programs/Services: Faith Based Dormitory, Adult Education Program (upon availability), Peer Education, Reentry Planning, Chaplaincy Services, GO KIDS Initiative

Community Work Projects: Services provided to county agencies, area school districts, and Habitat for Humanity.

Volunteer Initiatives: Substance Abuse Education, Support Groups, Mentoring, Religious/Faith Based Studies and Activities
