Visiting Hours and Rules

Visiting hours at Northern State Correctional Facility – Newport are on Saturdays and Sundays. Visits are scheduled alphabetically by the inmates' last name. Visiting Hours are as follows:

A-D Saturdays 9 - 11 am
E-L Saturdays 1 - 3 pm
M-R Sundays 9 - 11 am
S-Z Sundays 1 - 3 pm

Visiting Rules

  • A valid photo ID is required for all adult visitors
  • Follow the dress code – persons who do not dress appropriately may be turned away
  • Arrive at the facility no more than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled visiting time
  • Items may not be exchanged with your inmate during a visit
  • Bathrooms are not available during visiting; please use the bathroom in the reception area prior to entering the visiting room
  • Physical contact between adult visitors and inmates is not permitted
  • All visitors are subject to being searched

Programs For Inmates

Community High School of Vermont

The Community High School of Vermont assists adult students at Northern State Correctional Facility – Newport by developing personalized learning plans and providing coordinated learning opportunities that address inmate needs. These plans aim to strengthen their skills in living, learning, and working.

The program's mission is to offer an accredited high school education while providing risk-reducing interventions within the Vermont Department of Corrections to decrease recidivism.

The Community High School of Vermont (CHSVT) is a fully accredited academic and technical high school through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEAS&C). It is also approved as an independent school by the Vermont State Board of Education.

VCI

Vermont Correctional Industries (VCI) employs inmates at NSCF so they can gain real-world work experience. They learn on the job skills, soft skills and hard skills by empowerment, self-directed decision-making, excellence, quality customer service, and professionalism.

The VCI print shop is located at the Northern State Correctional Facility. The shop employs and prepares 22 offenders to reenter the community with the skills they need to succeed. VCI prints business cards, letterhead, envelopes, forms, brochures, booklets and a range of other printed items. The print shop bindery area collates, perforates, spiral binds, perfect bound, folds, tri-folds, staples, hole punch, numbering, and lamination.
