Charleston Correctional Center
The Charleston Correctional Center is a work-release unit and Residential Substance Abuse Unit for male and female inmates in the custody of the West Virginia Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. This facility opened in 2015 and is one of the newest prisons in West Virginia.
The facility operates a 96 bed co-educational work release unit and a 32 bed female Residential Substance Abuse (RSAT) Unit.
The inmates in the work release unit have jobs in the surrounding community to earn wages for court costs, fines, etc... At the end of their shift, they return back to the prison. To qualify for work release, inmates must be within 18 months of their release. They must perform at least 80 hours of community service and be classified as low risk.
Work release inmates can also earn incentives for good behavior. They include overnight furloughs with immediate family members and two-hour passes.
All inmates in the Residential Substance Abuse Unit must be within two years of their release date. In addition to their substance abuse treatment, the inmates must also go to classes for parenting, financial planning, and employment prep.
