Denmar Correctional Center

The Denmar Correctional Center is a medium-security prison for adult male inmates that is located near Hillsboro, West Virginia. This facility is operated by the West Virginia Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and can house a maximum of 232 inmates. 

The Denmar Correctional Center originally opened in 1919 as Denmar Hospital, a facility for tuberculosis patients. It closed in 1990 and was converted to a prison in 1993. In 2000, they added an Industries and Vocational building.

Programs For Inmates

Programs available to inmates at Denmar Correctional Center include Alcoholics/Narcotics Anonymous, non-residential substance abuse treatment, sex offender treatment, anger management group and individual counseling, violent offenders counseling and learning, victim awareness and several other programs. Educational courses offered include computer skills, Thinking For a Change, GED classes, and vocational training in electrical wiring and maintenance.

Employment opportunities at the facility include food service, laundry, and garden worker. Those who work in the garden harvest fruits and other crops from the prison garden and orchard. This food is used to prepare meals for the inmates. It's also donated to a local food bank.
