John C. Burke Correctional Center
The John C. Burke Correctional Center is a prison for adult male inmates that is located in Waupun, Wisconsin. This facility can house approximately 250 inmates.
JBCC is part of the Wisconsin Correctional Center System (WCCS). This is an "institution" created in the 1960s that consists of 14 adult, male correctional centers overseen by a single warden. This facility sits on the site that used to be the Minimum Security Bunkhouse, a housing facility for the Waupun Correctional Institution.

Visiting Hours and Rules
Visiting hours at John C. Burke Correctional Center are:
Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Saturdays, Sundays and holidays 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Visiting is held in the dining room. Outside visiting may be permitted during the spring, summer, and fall months, weather permitting and at staff discretion.
General Visiting Rules
Visitors will enter the Burke Center through the main entrance gate. One visit at a time will be processed by the Visiting Sergeant.
Visitors must wait in the lobby area until being called into the visiting room by the Sergeant. All visitors age sixteen and older must provide photo identification prior to visiting.
Visitors are allowed to bring in the following items while visiting:
- Money, not to exceed $20.00 per visitor - no money may be left with the inmate.
- Comb, pick or brush, one per visitor.
- Baby diapers, four per child. (Diaper bags are not allowed.)
- Plastic baby bottles, two per child
- Diaper wipes, one container
- Pacifier, one per child
- Baby blankets, two per child
- Hand-held infant seat, one per child
- Coat and pair of gloves, one each per visitor
- Headwear, one per visitor
- Institution locker key, one per visitor
- Tax papers and checks to be signed by the inmate are allowed. These items must be presented to the Visit Sergeant prior to the visit and the papers must leave with the visitor.
- Emergency medications
Strollers are NOT allowed to be brought into the Center. Purses and wallets may not be brought in on visits. Lockers are available in the lobby free of charge for visitor’s property.
NO radios, I-Pods, electronic games, cameras, cellular phones, pagers or other electronic devices are allowed to be brought in on visits.
Once the visit has begun, visitors are not allowed to return to their vehicle unless they choose to terminate the visit. Visitors suspected to be under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or other chemicals will not be permitted to visit.
Visitors are not allowed at the Center until ten minutes prior to the beginning of visits. No pets are allowed on Center grounds at any time.
Dress Code
The visiting room at John C. Burke has a family friendly atmosphere. The following clothing and accessories are considered unacceptable and will result in the denial of a visit:
- Watches of all types including smart watches
- Any wearable items with internet/smart technology and/or electronic recording equipment in any form
- Transparent clothing (thin white or light colored shirts)
- Shorts shorter than fingertip length (visitor standing naturally with arms straight down the side of body and fingers extended)
- Skirts or dresses shorter than fingertip length plus three inches
- Tops and dresses that are strapless, tube, tank, spaghetti-strap and/or halter top
- Tops and dresses that expose the midriff (front and/or back) and/or cleavage area
- Spandex, spandex-like, Lycra or Lycra-like tights, leggings, and jeggings
- Underwear worn on the outside or exposed undergarments
- Clothing with holes or tears including jeans and jackets with partial holes
- Clothing or accessories with obscene or profane writing, images, or pictures
- Gang-related or club related clothing or insignia. This includes headwear, footwear, logos or insignias.
- Motorcycle jackets bearing club logos.
- Hats must be worn with brim facing straight forward at all-times
- Pants must be pulled up at all times (no sagging)

Programs For Inmates
JBCC offers work release programs with local employers. This program offers employment to qualified inmates, with emphasis on maintaining that employment after the inmate’s release.
Inmates without a HS diploma or GED have the opportunity to attend school on-grounds with individual tutoring f as they work towards earning a High School Equivalency Diploma.
