The New Lisbon Correctional Institution is a medium-security prison for male inmates that is located in New Lisbon, Wisconsin. This facility can house approximately 950 inmates and is operated by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. 

The facility sits on 100 acres and features eight buildings. They include four housing units; a restrictive housing unit; a gatehouse; a health services unit; a school complex; a library; religious programming space; and administrative offices.

Visiting Hours and Rules

Visiting hours at New Lisbon CI are as follows:

  • Tuesday thru Friday: 2:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.; maximum visit length of 3 hours. 
  • Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays: 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; maximum visit length of 2 hours.

Holidays include New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, July 4 th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve. 

There is no visiting on Mondays, unless it is a holiday listed above. Visits on holidays will not count toward the weekly total. Inmates are permitted only one visit per day with a total of three visits per week, Tuesday – Sunday. 

Only one of the three visits may be on the weekend (Saturday or Sunday). Visitors will be allowed on grounds no earlier than ten minutes before visiting hours. 

There will be no admittance into the institution ONE HOUR before the end of visiting hours (Tuesday – Friday, 7:45 p.m. and Saturday or Sunday, 2:45 p.m.).

NO CONTACT VISITS

Inmates in Restricted Status Housing or under no contact visiting restrictions will be permitted to visit using the audiovisual equipment only. Visiting hours are the same as regular visiting hours but are limited to one hour due to space restrictions. 

A limit of two adult visitors, maximum of five total visitors, is permitted for no contact visits. Visitors may call ahead to determine if an inmate is on a no contact restriction. 

General Visiting Rules

Only visitors on the approved visiting list will be permitted to visit. The maximum number of visitors is ten, of which five may be children. Visitors will not be permitted to stay in the lobby unless waiting to enter the institution. 

Lockers are available for 25 cents (refundable at the end of visit) in the Lobby for visitors' property. Visitors' hands will be stamped in the Lobby and checked by control staff when entering and leaving the Visiting Room. Individuals must conduct themselves in an appropriate and courteous manner and comply with all the rules and instructions. 

Individuals age 16 and over will be required to provide current picture identification.

Only the following items may be brought in for your use while visiting: 

  • Comb, pick, or brush, limited to one for each visitor
  • Up to two baby blankets for each child
  • Up to four diapers for each child (diaper bags are not allowed)
  • Up to two, plastic baby bottles for each child
  • one hand-held baby seat for each child; diaper wipes (must be kept in a clear plastic bag)
  • One pacifier for each child
  • One coat and one pair of gloves for each visitor
  • Headwear (provided it does not conceal identity)
  • One institution locker key
  • Necessary personal medication such as, but not limited to, inhalers, nitro pills (only individual pills, not bottles), Epi pens, etc. (Visitors must notify the gatehouse officer and visiting room officer of the presence of such medications). 

Money allowed to be brought in for use on the visit is not to exceed $20 for each visitor. Money for inmates is not accepted on visits. 

INSTITUTION  NOTE: Visitors who are sensitive to elevated temperatures should check the weather forecast before planning a visit. The NLCI Visiting Room is not air conditioned.  

Handicapped parking spaces are only provided for vehicles with license plates or state approved display cards that authorize handicap parking.  

Weapons, illegal drugs, and alcohol are not allowed on state property.  

The use of tobacco or tobacco-like products is prohibited on state property.  NLCI is a tobacco free facility. No tobacco products, lighters, or ignition devices are allowed.  

Dress Code

The inmate visitors’ dress code listed below has been developed to ensure a safe and secure institution visiting area that is appropriate, tasteful, and conducive to a wholesome family atmosphere. 

The following apparel is considered inappropriate and will result in the denial of entry to the institution.  

  • Watches  
  • Transparent/translucent clothing.  
  • Shorts which are shorter than fingertip length (i.e., visitor standing naturally with arms straight down the side of the body and fingers extended).  
  • Skirts or dresses shorter than fingertip length plus three inches (should a reasonable doubt exist, a ruler will be provided to the visitor to enable the visitor to demonstrate compliance).  
  • Strapless, tube, and halter tops/dresses.  
  • Tops and dresses which expose the midriff front and/or back.  
  • Spandex or Spandex-like and Lycra or Lycra-like clothing. Tights or Leggings may be worn under attire of appropriate length.  
  • Exposed undergarments.  
  • Clothing with revealing holes, tears, or slits.  
  • Clothing or accessories with obscene or profane writing, images or pictures.  
  • Gang or club related clothing or insignia.  
  • Camisoles and tank tops are only permissible when worn under other attire.  
  • Any Clothing that may have potential to cause undue attention.  
  • Internet “Smart” technology and electronic recording equipment in any form is prohibited. 

These restrictions apply equally to men and women. Footwear must be worn at all times. Acceptable attire must be worn at all times. 

Video Visits

Every inmate at New Lisbon Correctional Institution is allowed one 20-minute visit every two weeks. Visits can be requested by emailing [email protected]

Visitors must have previously completed a Visitor Questionnaire and be on the approved visiting list. Prior to the video visit starting the visitor(s) will be required to show an approved form of identification. Children or minors will be allowed to visit if on the approved visiting list and identified when the visit was scheduled. 

Visits are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. When you are requesting a virtual visit, please submit the following information:  

  • Inmate name & number  
  • Housing unit  
  • Date/time requested for the visit  
  • Names of all visitors to be included on the visit

You will receive an email confirmation including the date, time, link, and password to connect to the visit.

  • A Unit : Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. or Saturday from 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. 
  • B Unit:  Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. or Saturday from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. 
  • C Unit: Thursday from 2:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. or Sunday from 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. 
  • D Unit: Friday from 2:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. or Sunday from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
